It Helps to Have a Sense of Humor

by Jenna on September 7, 2010

When I wrote to you about Mercury in Retrograde the other day, I think I forgot to mention one little tidbit: It really, really helps to have a sense of humor.

I’ve definitely been in the thick of do-over mode lately — just yesterday I went BACK to the copy shop to pick up the second attempt at my business cards (they’d printed the wrong file) and also went BACK to the restaurant where they’d left out the dressing on my to-go salad the day before.

Luckily, because I had a sense of humor about the whole thing, I was laughing at the Mercury Retrograde trickster energy afoot. And because I had a good attitude, everyone involved were very helpful — the people who made mistakes on my orders graciously corrected the mistakes, and promptly.

I can also tell you that I’ve allowed tons of extra time for this trip I’m taking tomorrow — I’m already completely packed and have pretty much everything squared away, and we’re leaving for the airport nice and early.

My take, and I’ve said this before about Mercury in Retrograde, is that there’s no sense getting frustrated about it, but rather to just go with the flow of the energy. It makes it so much easier.

I want to quickly add one other story I think might be helpful: When I was hunting for a parking space in busy downtown Berkeley so I could review a proof of my business cards and on my second trip around the block, I kept asking for help from my guides to find a spot. One did not appear to be forthcoming, so I asked a better question: “Am I going to be able to find a spot close by?” The answer was clear, “There just isn’t one.”

As I rounded the block and saw the car wash, I remembered an instinct I’d dismissed to take my husband’s car in to get cleaned up. I’d dismissed it because I didn’t want to interfere, etc. But I had a coupon for a free car wash in my wallet, and realized that I could drop the car off, go do my quick errand and be back before it was done. I pulled in without any hesitation. Perfect solution.

It sure helps to have my guides and the Universe looking out for me even when I can’t remember to do it myself. :)

Lick Your Paws, Trust the Universe

by Jenna on August 31, 2010

Last week was another wildly topsy-turvy ride for me. I started off the week worried about money, getting a cold and not being able to sleep, feeling sluggish about writing again, and generally feeling STUCK. It wasn’t pretty.

The only thing I felt a go-ahead sense on was talking to some of my favorite clients and colleagues, so that’s what I focused on doing.

I also got a call from a good friend who told me about a story she had just heard about how lions, when they are unsuccessful at hunting, give up, lie down, lick their paws and purr.

They DON’T stress about how their hunting isn’t working out, or keep trying and trying and trying without success. They take a rest, AND THEY ENJOY IT!

What was absolutely fascinating is that when I allowed myself to rest and to enjoy it, my energy, enthusiasm, and intuition came bounding back to me. And as I followed my intuition, and talked with my beloved muses, friends, clients, and colleagues, everything started clicking together in amazing ways.

New ideas and new perspectives started flowing in.

My in-laws called to say they were sending over an early Christmas check.

One of my colleagues and I came up with a brilliant opportunity for a collaboration that I’m thrilled to pieces about (if it works out I’ll be sure to let you know about it — I think it will be fabulous!).

It wouldn’t have come about if I hadn’t been rested and listening to my spirit saying, “Ask her about that program.” It also meant having the courage to speak up about something that felt a little scary — presumptuous even — to do. Delightfully, she’s been following her guidance on waiting for just the right person to show up, and there I was.

See, I’ve been receiving all this guidance lately about what I need to be focusing on (writing and hands), but I honestly haven’t been sure about HOW to do it. So I’ve been asking and asking (and asking) for help. The way I see this last week is that the Universe showed up with opportunities, and because I was paying attention, I was able to take advantage of them.

In the end what clicked into place for me was how the Universe DOES take care of us, and it can do an even better job when we do our parts — when we rest when we are supposed to rest, listen when we are supposed to listen, and speak when we are meant to speak.

And I have to say, as I look back at my crazy car accident earlier this month, what I see is this: The Universe showed me how well it is taking care of me. We are safe, we are happy, we are whole, and we are together. And the blessings just keep on coming.

Does Being Intuitive Mean You Always Know?

by Jenna on August 3, 2010

As an intuitive, sensitive being, I’ve had more than a few warning signs when something is “up” — the day my ex was in a motorcycle accident I was filled with anxiety, for instance, and I often have clear “no” feelings about when it’s time NOT to do something and “yeses” when it is.

I’ve also had some experiences of things I didn’t see coming, at all. I didn’t have a clue that I’d have a c-section, for instance, when I was pregnant, though I did have an inkling we’d have our son at the hospital and not at home the way we had planned. But I didn’t have a sense of why we’d be at the hospital until it was upon us.

Similarly, just this last Saturday we had a car accident that has left us all in a state of shock. Despite the fact that our car flipped over and was totaled, we all walked away, essentially unharmed.

How to Rely On Your Inner Wisdom

by Jenna on July 27, 2010

If you’re like most people in this day and age, you’ve been trained not to trust your own inner wisdom and you’ve been taught to doubt yourself.

Your parents, friends, and teachers have probably never been comfortable with your intuitive insights, and have discouraged you from sharing them.

(My great-grandfather used to get so frustrated with my great-grandmother because she always knew what was inside every gift he gave her, that she learned to pretend she didn’t know!)

As a result, you may have suppressed your intuitive gifts so deeply that you’re not even sure you have them or how to access them anymore.

Tips To Reclaim Your Intuitive Gifts

by Jenna on July 7, 2010

One of the things I notice about many sensitive and creative types is that we sometimes have a hard time trusting ourselves and our intuition.

Many of us have trained ourselves out of our intuitive abilities because we’ve been shamed for “just knowing” what’s really going on and speaking up about it.

(Remember the story of Cassandra, the woman who was cursed always to know the truth but never to be believed? You can read my article about her here: http://www.highlysensitivesouls.com/blog/?p=27)

One of the first steps you have to take to reclaiming your intuition is to begin to rebuild your relationship with it, by being open to it and taking action on what you learn from it. In my upcoming Embrace Your Inner Wisdom course, I’ll be teaching all about the 7 simple but profound steps you can take to activate your intuition.

But there’s also a conscious choice that needs to be made — a decision to live a life based in a spiritual perspective — to believe that the unseen and “unknowable” (at least to our conscious minds) are valuable and important.

One of the very most powerful steps to activating and reclaiming your intuitive guidance is to ASK for it.

Just ask.

Ask for guidance out loud.

Ask in the shower.

Ask while you’re washing dishes.

Ask when you’re in your car.

And ask for guidance about everything — especially the little stuff, so your conscious mind doesn’t freak out too much and you get a chance to build up a log of evidence that it actually works.

My favorite way to begin is by asking for help finding great parking spaces.

Try it!
