Goodness, it’s been funky lately what with the Mercury Retrograde and all. I’m behind schedule on getting my Quiet Your Inner Critic class going, but looking forward to connecting with you about that soon (watch for a video tip series coming your way). In the meantime, in the spirit of taking care of old business during [...]

As a sensitive person in this not-so-sensitive world, I want you to know that you are not alone.

Highly sensitive people make up about 15 to 20% of the population. This means that 1 of every 5 to 6 people around you is highly sensitive, with a finely-tuned nervous system taking in many more subtleties and bits of information, just like you.

This means that no matter what, we are not alone. We just have to find each other.

On Feeling Alone

On the other hand, I recently saw a clever cartoon by Hugh MacLeod, author of Ignore Everybody, that points out how being different begets loneliness.

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="400" caption="by Hugh MacLeod (aka @gapingvoid)"]The price of being a sheep is boredom. The price of being a wolf is loneliness.[/caption]

The thing is, highly sensitive people don’t get to choose. We’re not wired to be sheep (at least not in this society). That makes us, in MacLeod’s model, wolves. And that means we’re often lonely.

Sensitives in the Not-So-Sensitive World of Business

One of the places I particularly see this loneliness show up is in the world of business.

This is because, as sensitive souls we’re well-suited to creating our own meaningful work to share our unique brand of wisdom with the world. If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you’ll already know how adamantly I believe that the world needs our highly sensitive wisdom, insight, and perspective desperately Right Now.

But, and this is a big But, few of us particularly like “self-promotion” (shudder), marketing (yuck), or selling (please, anything but that).

So how do we succeed when we’re simultaneously designed to work independently and feel repulsed by the very things that help make it possible?

Plus, even when (or if) we decide to learn more about “that marketing stuff,” it isn’t tailored to highly sensitive people and no one else seems concerned about the finer points of it, so we feel even more lonely, isolated, and start thinking about maybe giving up on the whole thing altogether.

5 Keys to Feeling Less Alone

Here are 5 keys to help you start navigating your way through the world of business so you feel less lonely and more on track.

Here’s what I want you to remember:

For Highly Sensitive Parents
I want to recommend to you a coaching club I just joined, called the “Joyous Family Coaching Circle.”

I think it’s extremely well suited for sensitive parents.

The Circle includes a monthly coaching call (and some other nifty gifts) at a super affordable cost with a highly talented and intuitive coach who understands how to get kids and parents in touch with what they need at a deeper level while solving the practical day-to-day parenting challenges we all bump into.

What I love about Connie’s approach to parenting is that she is dedicated to helping parents find their inner wisdom and do what is most supportive for ALL the family members (kids AND parents).

I’m not an affiliate of Connie’s, I just love her work. I asked if she would consider extending her early enrollment discount just for you, and she said yes. So through April 7 (the day of the first call), you can join her Circle for $17 per month (regularly $27), when you go here and enter the code “Jenna” at checkout.

For Highly Sensitive Professionals
Here’s a quick update on The Sensitive Professionals Network.

You may have seen our survey a few weeks ago, and we’ve posted the results online. You can check them out, here.

Also, next week The Sensitive Professionals Network will be hosting a free TeleGathering on Thursday, April 8th, so we can get together as a tribe and find out more from you about what you need and want as a sensitive “pro.”

While we have just done the survey, we know there’s nothing quite as delicious as getting together live to talk over what’s it’s REALLY like to be a sensitive soul in the world of business.

If you’d like to participate in the call, all you have to do is join The Sensitive Professionals Network mailing list in the upper right corner of the home page here and we’ll be in touch with all the call-in details.
